(Atlantic) The Atlantic Beautification Committee meets on Wednesday to discuss and plan future priorities or research.
In 2016, the city hired Iowa State University Student Matt Iekel as an intern to design a beautification plan for Atlantic.
Iekel presented the plan to the City Council, and the Mayor established a Beautification Committee to review the project and make recommendations for improvements.
The Committee recommended that attractive wayfinding signs and banners for the light poles be the first projects completed between 2017 and 2018. In 2017 and 2020, the Library Board adopted the reading garden project to spend $80,829.92 on the project.
A Beautification Trust fund is included in the 2022 budget and should grow to $50,000 by July 1, 2022. The fund balance is projected to grow to $787,500.00 by July 1, 2032.
