(Des Moines, IA) — Some Iowa parents and school board members are asking the State Board of Education to pressure lawmakers to allow masks in classrooms again.
Governor Kim Reynolds signed a bill in May that bans mask mandates in schools. Central Springs School Board member Jean Schilling says the law was passed before the C-D-C began warning against the COVID delta variant. Schilling asked the Board of Education Thursday, “Please encourage the governor to allow local school districts to follow local public health recommendations to keep kids safe.”
The Board of Education did not discuss the issue because it was not on their meeting agenda. Governor Reynolds said earlier this week that students can return to class safely.
