(Atlantic) Pickleball continues to gain popularity and four new outdoor courts at Sunnyside Park are ready for use.
The courts are painted on the west end of the tennis courts. Pickup games are held on Wednesday evenings and Friday mornings while an organized league takes place on Sunday. Bruce Henderson says in a media release, “Pickleball is currently the fastest growing sport in the U.S. Between 2019 and 2020 the number of players increased by 21.3%. Currently there are about 3.8 million players in the U.S. In 2006 there were only 400 outdoor pickleball venues in the U.S.A. Today there are over 5000.
Open for players of all ages and ability levels are time slots at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday and 8:00 a.m. Friday. Rackets and balls are provided and someone will be available for instruction. During this time frame two courts will be available for experienced players. On Sundays at 6:00 p.m. is organized play which requires advanced sign-up.
