(Greenfield) Nodaway Valley scored four runs in the 3rd inning to take the lead for good and they beat Griswold 12-7 in softball on Thursday. The 7-7 Wolverines knock the Tigers from the ranks of the unbeaten behind a huge offensive night.
Nodaway Valley tallied 20 hits in the contest. Madison Fry and Lindsey Davis each had four hits. Maddax DeVault, Erin Rhoads, and Aubrey Van Otterloo all finished with three hits. Jorja Holliday, Lilly Day, and Bella Hogan had one hit apiece.
It was back and forth early on. Griswold scored two in the top of the 1st and Nodaway Valley tied it with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning.
The Wolverines first lead came in the 2nd when Lindsey Davis singled in Madison Fry to make it 3-2.
Griswold reclaimed the advantage at 4-3 in the 3rd thanks to consecutive two out hits from Brenna Rossell and Karly Millikan.
Speaking of two out hitting, Nodaway Valley sent eight to the plate and plated three runs in the bottom of the 3rd. Lily Day, Madison Fry, Maddax DeVault, Erin Rhoads, and Lindsey Davis had consecutive two out hits to put Nodaway Valley on top 7-4.
Nine came to the plate for Nodaway Valley in the 5th as they stretched the lead to 11-4. Madison Fry and Erin Rhoads each bunted for singles, Maddax DeVault had another hit, and RBI singles were struck by Aubrey Van Otterloo and Bella Hogan.
Griswold had consecutive hits from Anna Kelley, Haylee Pennock, Dakota Reynolds, and Makenna Askeland during a 6th inning rally. They closed the gap from seven to four runs at 11-7. Kelley posted three hits on the night and scored three runs. The team tallied 11 hits.
Nodaway Valley’s final tally of the game came in the 6th when Maddax DeVault scored on a ground ball by Lindsey Davis.
