(Orange City) The Atlantic trio of Braden Smith, Drey Newell, and Garrett McLaren competed as individuals at the District Golf Tournament at Landsmeer Golf Course in Orange City on Thursday.
Braden Smith shot 79 and finished 10th, Drey Newell, 80, tied for 14th, and Garrett McLaren carded a 93 and tied for 29th.
“It was good to see our boys play at a level golf course with some great competition,” said Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “Braden Smith changed his driver and hit the ball well today. He had a solid front nine and a better back nine. He parred the last three holes, which is a great score.
‘Drey had a rough start, tripled the first hole but came around and settled down,” added Den Beste. “He needed to par or birdied the last two holes to have a shot. Garrett had some struggles today, but it was a good experience for him, and we hope this will help him into next year. It was good to see several parents and some players attending as well.”
The Trojans season comes to an end, but not without some great performances throughout the year, including a fourth straight Hawkeye Ten Conference Tournament title, and individual champion Drey Newell.
