(Atlantic) Atlantic defeated Clarinda 161-169 over Clarinda in a boy’s golf dual at the Nishna Hills Golf Course in Atlantic on Thursday.
Lane Nelson shot a 37 and Medaled for Atlantic. Braden Smith and Garrett McLaren carded 41’s, and Drey Newell finished with a 42. Cruz Weaver shot 45, and Roth Den Beste ended the round with a 49.
Tate Niklasen led a trio of J.V. players for Atlantic with a 45, Cooper Jipsen, 52, and Colton Becker, 53.
“We knew going in that we had a good shot of beating Clarinda, but we had to play a good round,” said Atlantic Head Coach Ed Den Beste. “Great to see Lane medal today with a 37. Braden and Drey got off to some tough starts. Drey tripled number #11 and Braden a double on #12. However, they kept it together with low 40s. Garrett had a tough hole 11 with an OB but then played better after that. Cruz played his best round today. Great to see him score well. Roth also had a good score but needs to work on shots around the green. It was goodwin for us on a course we don’t play often.”
Atlantic travels to Denison on Saturday.
