(Ames, IA) — Emerald ash borer is confirmed in Fremont, Lyon and Wright counties for the first time. The tree-killing pest has now been found in 80 of Iowa’s counties. Insect samples were collected from ash trees in rural Farragut, Inwood and Dows and U-S-D-A inspectors confirmed they all tested positive for E-A-B. Iowa State University Extension says mid-April through May is the best time to treat trees for emerald ash border. Insecticide treatments can help preserve and protect healthy ash trees. E-A-B is considered a significant threat to all species of ash trees.
