(Atlantic) This is the 25th year Atlantic earned the Tree City USA designation.
Led by Dolly Bergmann’s tireless effort, the Atlantic Trees Forever Organization is one of more than 3,500 communities across the United States recognized as a “Tree City USA.” Over 150 million Americans live in one of these communities meeting all the requirements. A tree board or department, a tree care ordinance, an annual forestry budget of a least $2.00 per capita, and Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation.
Atlantic City Administrator John Lund says the positive impacts of increasing the canopy in the Atlantic area include; lowering energy bills, increasing stormwater mitigation, improving aesthetics and air quality.
Bergmann says in recognition of Arbor Day a tree will be planted alongside the Schuler Elementary Students on April 30.
