(Red Oak) Two people were hurt in a two-vehicle crash on Highway 71 in northern Montgomery County.
The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened at around 3:45 p.m., Thursday, on Highway 71 and 110th Street. One of the driver’s Debra Bender was transported to the hospital by ground ambulance to treat non-life-threatening injuries. A passenger was air–lifted to the University of Nebraska Medical Center.
According to the press release, Bender was driving a northbound 2012 Chrysler 200 in the slow lane and was struck by a 2000 GMC 1500 pickup driven by Gary Johnson of rural Villisca. A non-contact white vehicle was making a left turn west onto 110th Street. Johnson initiated a left turn east onto 5th Street and didn’t see the Bender vehicle in time. Johnsons’ front passenger side struck the right front passenger side of Bender’s Chrysler.
No citations were issued at the time of the accident, and the investigation is complete. Both vehicles are a total loss.
Grant Fire and Rescue, Griswold Fire and Rescue, and Villisca Fire and Rescue assisted the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
