(Area) This weekend will be one of the busiest stretches of the Turkey Hunting Season.
This is the first weekend of the season which attracts a lot of hunters to the woods. Bryan Hayes and the Iowa DNR urge safety. “As we head out for these turkey seasons we always want to stress safety. We all want our time in the woods to be safe.”
One of the main tips is to wear blaze orange to be visible when you are moving locations. “The turkey hunters are fully camouflaged out there, but a little blaze orange with a cap or a vest when you move spots is certainly a good idea. Avoid wearing patriotic colors. The red, white, and blue is exactly what you might see on a male wild turkey.”
Hayes says hunters need to be aware that they may not be alone in the woods. “If you’re hunting private land make sure you have permission and know the property boundaries. Even if you are hunting private property the potential exists for someone to trespass or move in on you.”
The second season is April 16-20, third season is April 21-27, and fourth season is April 28 to May 16.
