(Greenfield) Iowa House District 20 Representative Ray Sorensen says the Iowa House released its’ education budget this week containing no new money for Iowa’s regent Universities.
Sorensen says they have some serious questions about how the regents are operating their budgets. He noted while enrollment has dropped, administrative costs have continued to go up. For example, Regents employees have increased by 28 percent over the last decade, and only 9 percent of those new employees are faculty positions. “The majority is non-faculty positions that we know very little about, and it is unclear what value they add to the students,” said Sorensen.
Additionally, Sorensen says it’s become clear that the regents aren’t doing enough to protect their students’ and staff’s free speech rights.
