(Council Bluffs) A Nebraska man died in a fiery crash in Pottawattamie County.
The Iowa State Patrol says the accident happened at 12:44 p.m. on Interstate 80 near the 12.85-mile marker. Daniel L. Owens, 51, of Omaha, Nebraska, was killed in the crash.
According to the State Patrol, a westbound 2012 Cascadia Freightliner driven by Daniel Owens struck the back of a 2013 International 7300, driven by 50-year old Keith Myers, of Neola, who was stopped in the outside lane with the Iowa DOT vehicle’s emergency warning light-activated and arrow board directing traffic to the inside lane.
The International came to rest, blocking both westbound lanes of Interstate 80, facing southeast. The semi caught fire and came to rest partially in the outside lane, across from the outside shoulder, and into the west ditch. Emergency Responders found Owens lying in the outside lane. Treynor Rescue transported Myers to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs.
The crash blocked the Interstate for several hours.
