(Des Moines) The 211 Call Center will begin taking calls from Iowans age 65 and older on Tuesday, March 9th.
This service is only for adults age 65 and older in need of scheduling support for COVID-19 vaccines because they don’t have access to a computer or don’t feel comfortable using one. Those who call can speak with a vaccine navigator who will schedule an appointment for the caller at a nearby Hy-Vee pharmacy.
Melissa McCoy, Director of the 211 Call Center, spoke at Governor Kim Reynolds press conference this week about what Iowans can expect when they call 211.
McCoy said upon scheduling, you should be prepared to receive the date, time and Hy-Vee pharmacy location of your appointment. You should plan to arrive at your appointment at least 10 minutes early and bring your Medicare or Insurance card if possible. There is no cost to you to receive the vaccine.
If rescheduling or cancelling an appointment is necessary, you will need to call the Hy-Vee pharmacy directly where your appointment was scheduled.
Vaccine navigators can also refer you to transportation resources if needed.
