(Ankeny) Southwest Iowa farmer Scot Bailey will serve as District 7 director for the Iowa Soybean Association (ISA). The ISA board made his appointment during its January meeting held in Ankeny.
Bailey’s appointment to the board follows the unexpected passing of former ISA president and district 7 director Bill Shipley. “I’m pleased to welcome Scot to our board,” says ISA President Jeff Jorgenson of Sidney. “He’s committed to our mission of serving Iowa soybean farmers and working for the long-term success of the soybean industry.”
The Anita-area soybean, corn, cattle, and sheep farmer assumes the leadership post after several years of engaging with ISA. He was a participant in the 2016 ISA Experience Class and is known for his ISA policy development process. “Words can’t express the deep sadness the soybean family feels without our friend and leader Bill Shipley,” says Jorgenson. “Filling his role was a difficult task. Scot’s passion and commitment to our industry made him an ideal candidate to step up in service to the soybean farmer.”
Bailey says Shipley’s leadership helped him dig deeper into the association. He hopes to provide information about ISA programs and services to fellow farmers and accurate information about modern agriculture to consumers.
“Above all, we need to grow and market soybeans,” says Bailey. “We must also communicate the work we’re doing, so farmers and consumers understand why it’s important.”
