(Area) A large volume of snow has made access difficult for ice anglers.
This will shift most of the attention away from farm ponds and towards county and state lakes. “With all the snow it’s going to make it harder for people to get back into farm ponds. I know a lot of people like to fish those. Our county lakes and state lakes are going to be good options because parking lots are cleared out and it is easer to access the lake from those spots.”
Fisheries Research Biologist Lewis Bruce provides a weekend fishing forecast. “Littlefield Lake has been pretty consistent fishing the brush piles and catching bluegills and a few crappies. There’s also a few perch in that lake. Meadow Lake is one I would probably try, north of Greenfield. There’s a lot of nice sized bluegill there.”
Bruce adds Lake Orient has had some good reports while other places have been hit and miss. “If you do go to a lake using the fishing atlas to find the structure. Twelve to fourteen to sixteen feet of water isn’t a bad depth to look for. Just bounce around until you can find some fish. Early in the morning and later in the afternoon prime times to go.”
Bruce reports ice depth of anywhere from four to eight inches.
