(Des Moines) Starting next week, the Federal Government will increase each state’s allocation of COVID-19 Vaccine by 16-percent guaranteed for the next three weeks. During Wednesday’s press conference, Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds says in Iowa, this equates to an additional 6,300 doses.
“But even with the 16-percent increase in the vaccine, the nation’s current supply cannot keep up with the incredibly high demand,” said Reynolds. “I know that can be frustrating to hear, and I know Iowans are eager to get vaccinated and finally get COVID-19 behind them, but we must remain patient.”
Reynolds also delivered more positive news referencing Johnson and Johnson’s vaccine expected to receive emergency use authorization from the FDA next month. The Johnson and Johnson vaccine is a single-dose vaccine that will speed up the vaccination process nationwide. “Even with this positive news, I still want to remind Iowans that the vaccine supply will remain limited for quite some time,” said Reynolds. “But despite that challenge, we’re making good progress in our efforts to vaccinate as many Iowans as possible.
Health Officials administered more than 200,000 vaccinations since the initial vaccine’s arrival 46-days ago.
