(Area) Enrollment in the Conservation Reserve Program continues through February 12th.
The CRP acres are vital to the DNR from a hunting aspect. The pheasant population in particular has benefited from the program. “It provides some really valuable habitat out there. Without it I don’t know where we’d be with not only our pheasant population, but a lot of our other wildlife species that depend on it.”
Brian Hayes with the Iowa DNR says the advantages extend beyond wildlife. “It’s been well documented the importance not only for wildlife habitat, but there’s water quality benefits, soil saving benefits, so producers out there if they can work some CRP acres into their operations it is a benefit.”
This is the 56th year of the program. Iowa has roughly 90,000 acres set to expire this fall.
