(Council Bluffs) Emergency repairs of damaged pavement on the Madison Avenue overpass on eastbound Interstate 80 at mile marker 5 in Council Bluffs will require closing the ramp from northbound I-29 to eastbound I-80 at the East System Interchange and closing the South Expressway southbound/eastbound on-ramp at I-29 (exit 49) from 3 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2.
The Iowa DOT says during this closure, eastbound traffic will be directed around the work zone by traveling west and exiting off I-29 at South 24th Street (exit 50) and then turning around to travel back east.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
