(Atlantic) The Cass County Board of Supervisors this morning received a request from the Cass County Firefighters Association for 5-percent match funding if a grant application for funding to purchase radios is approved.
JC Wyman, President of the Cass County Firefighters Association, told the Supervisors they are trying to get on the new Iowa Statewide Interoperable Communications System (ISICS).
Audio PlayerCass County Emergency Management Coordinator Mike Kennon said the county has been in the process for over a year taking steps to integrate onto the ISICS system. He said currently at the Dispatch Center they are in the midst of a $300,000 project paid for by 911 surcharge money to incorporate their radio consoles.
Audio PlayerJC Wyman said the total cost for the radios is going to be $341,265. This will cover 45 radios that are part of the apparatuses and 14 handhelds. Wyman said the grant writing is currently in process. The grant won’t open until early 2021 and the grant will be awarded in late 2021.
The Supervisors did not vote to approve the funding this morning, but they told the Cass County Firefighters Association that they support them and as soon as they need the funding they will put it on the agenda for approval.
