(Atlantic) The Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors visited GracePoint Church on Thursday, October 8th, to welcome Lead Pastor Todd Erlandson and learn more about the church’s ministries and community involvement.
Todd brings 30 years of full-time ministry experience, including 22 years as a pastor. Originally from Minnesota, he has also been involved in missionary work in Ukraine, where he met his wife, Tanya. The family recently moved to Atlantic and have been setting into the community the last six weeks.
Todd said he’s been encouraged by GracePoint’s welcoming atmosphere and desire to serve Atlantic. One question that guides him as a pastor is whether the community would notice if the church were to close its doors. He wants GracePoint to be a place that makes a difference beyond Sunday mornings, offering help and building relationships without expecting anything in return.
The Ambassadors learned about several programs bringing people through GracePoint’s doors each week. WACK, a Wednesday afternoon program for middle school students, provides snacks, homework help and activities after school. Wednesday evenings include a community meal followed by Awana, a children’s ministry program welcoming around 50 kids for Bible lessons, games and activities.
GracePoint also has a senior ministry that visits individuals in nursing homes and those who may have difficulty getting out. Sunday worship features volunteer musicians performing a mix of traditional hymns and contemporary music.
Outside the church, members volunteer with mobile food distributions and participate in local events, including Atlantic’s Christmas celebrations and Produce in the Park. GracePoint also hosts an annual women’s Christmas gathering that welcomes attendees from throughout the area.
Todd emphasized that GracePoint’s programs are open to the community, not just church members. As he settles into his new role, he hopes to build more relationships with local organizations and find additional ways the church can lend a hand.
GracePoint Church is located at 1 East 22nd Street in Atlantic. To learn more about worship services, children’s programs and community activities, visit www.gracepointatlantic.com or follow GracePoint Church on Facebook.
