(Atlantic) Cass County officials say ongoing phone problems are still affecting some callers trying to reach the Cass County Communications Center, the Atlantic Police Department, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
In an update posted Monday evening, Cass County Communications said the issue has not yet been resolved.
“We are still having issues,” the agency said. “We apologize for the inconvenience, but unfortunately there isn’t anything we can do at this time to fix it.”
Officials said service tickets have been submitted to Verizon and CenturyLink, and they will provide additional updates as more information becomes available.
The issue was first reported shortly after midnight on August 2. At that time, officials said some callers were unable to reach the Cass County Communications Center at 712-243-2204, the Atlantic Police Department at 712-243-3512, and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office at 712-243-2206.
Officials believe the problem may be related to a routing issue involving Verizon and CenturyLink. They noted a similar issue has occurred in the past, when Verizon phones were unable to complete calls to CenturyLink landlines.
If the problem is confirmed to be a carrier routing issue, officials say it is outside of the agencies’ control to fix.
Anyone who is unable to reach the affected agencies by phone and has an emergency or needs immediate assistance is urged to call 911. Officials say there are no known issues affecting 911 service.
