(Des Moines) The average price of regular unleaded gasoline in Iowa fell 5 cents over the past week, according to the latest AAA Weekly Fuel Report.
As of Wednesday, regular unleaded gasoline was averaging $3.75 per gallon statewide. Despite the weekly decline, prices remain 83 cents higher than they were one year ago. The national average for regular unleaded gasoline was $4.09 per gallon, up 3 cents from last week.
Diesel prices moved in the opposite direction, rising 12 cents this week to a statewide average of $4.97 per gallon. A year ago, diesel averaged $3.56 per gallon in Iowa. Iowa’s current diesel price remains 36 cents below the national average of $5.33 per gallon.
Crude oil prices also declined during the past week. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude dropped $1.78 per barrel to $84.98, while Brent crude fell $3.34 to $90.53 per barrel. One year ago, WTI crude was selling for $70.27 per barrel, while Brent crude was $73.21.
Natural gas prices also declined this week. At the Henry Hub reporting site, natural gas fell 18 cents to $2.73 per million British thermal units (MMBtu).
