(Guthrie Co.) A child suffered minor injuries in a car-versus-cow accident in Guthrie County.
The Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office says the accident happened on July 18 at 9:40 p.m. 33-year-old Taylor Holmes of West Des Moines was driving a 2015 Ford Edge southbound on Highway 25, south of Guthrie Center.
Holmes stated that another vehicle was traveling northbound. As the vehicles were passing each other, the headlights from the other vehicle prevented her from seeing a black cow standing in her lane of travel. The Ford Edge struck the cow, causing major damage to the vehicle and sending it into the west ditch.
Holmes said her 8-year-old child was sitting in the back seat without a seat belt and suffered a minor facial injury. Panora Ambulance was called to the scene and assessed the child, who was not transported.
Holmes was cited for Failure to Use Seat Belt – Minor.
