(Council Bluffs) A residence is a total loss following a fire and explosion late Friday night into early Saturday morning in Council Bluffs, according to the Council Bluffs Fire Department Facebook page.
Firefighters were dispatched at approximately 11:56 p.m. Friday to the area of 381 Lincoln Avenue. When the first crews arrived, they found a fully engulfed structure at 438 Lincoln Avenue, with fireworks actively going off inside.
Due to the fire’s extent, crews initiated a defensive attack against the flames. The home’s resident escaped without injury, and no injuries were reported.
Officials said the house contained a large number of fireworks, resulting in loud explosions that could be heard and seen for blocks around the residence. Debris was also scattered throughout the area.
City crews responded to assist with cleanup efforts.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Anyone with information related to the fire is asked to contact Council Bluffs Fire Investigator Dan Roberts at droberts@councilbluffs-ia.gov.
