(Adair) An 85-year-old man was found deceased following a house fire near Adair on June 2.
According to Adair Fire and Rescue, firefighters were dispatched at approximately 2:53 p.m. Tuesday to a structure fire at 3171 Frontier Road. Upon arrival, crews found the residence fully engulfed in flames.
Firefighters initially prepared for a possible interior search and rescue operation. However, after conducting a size-up of the scene, conditions were re-evaluated and entry into the structure was deemed unsafe for interior firefighting operations.
Crews then transitioned to a defensive strategy, focusing their efforts on extinguishing the fire from outside the structure.
During fire suppression operations, an 85-year-old male was located deceased inside the residence.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by the Casey Fire Department, Guthrie Center Fire Department, Stuart Fire Department, Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management, the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Dispatch, and the Iowa State Patrol.
In a statement, Adair Fire and Rescue extended its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and loved ones.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
