(Atlantic) Memorial services were held nationwide today, remembering those who died while serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Leonard Kinney, Commander of American Legion Post #43, served as the emcee at the Atlantic Cemetery and introduced Keynote speaker Dan Haynes, Staff Sergeant, Retired, Iowa National Guard.
Staff Sergeant Retired Dan Haynes says Memorial Day is a day of reflection, and what it truly costs to maintain the freedom we so often take for granted. Haynes recalls the loss of two fellow foot soldiers on August 27, 2004, who lost their lives just outside of Camp Dodge en route to a mobilization station in Oklahoma.
