(Pottawattamie Co.) The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors has proclaimed May 3–9, 2026, as National Correctional Officers and Employees Week.
The proclamation recognizes correctional officers as trained law enforcement professionals who maintain safe facilities and support public safety. It highlights their role in supervising and rehabilitating individuals in custody, while providing a safe and humane environment.
Officials say correctional staff also promote positive outcomes through education, training, counseling, and treatment programs that contribute to safer communities.
Supervisor Jeff Jorgensen read the proclamation….
Jail Administrator Trish Bernhards said correctional professionals are often the unseen backbone of public safety. She said staff manage complex situations each day, maintain order, ensure the safety of those in custody, and uphold the constitutional standards the community expects and deserves.
The proclamation encourages all citizens to recognize and thank these dedicated public servants for their service.
