(Guthrie Center, IA) — Two weeks ago, Guthrie County Supervisor Maggie Armstrong proposed a five percent increase in county salaries and at Tuesday’s meeting, the supervisors approved it.
Overall, the Supervisors approved the following with the new FY 2026 budget:
— A reduction in the general basic levy by 3.803 percent
— A reduction in the general supplement levy by 3.83 percent
— $40,000 to be transferred from the general supplement to the general basic fund
— Rural services basic rate reduced to $3.50
— A five percent increase (5%) in county workers salaries
Supervisor Mike Dickson says that this is the right time to make such a dramatic move
Supervisor Maggie Armstrong says this is the biggest move in the budget she has seen
Dickson made the motion to approve the proposal; Armstrong seconded it and it passed by a unanimous 5-0 vote.
