(Des Moines, IA) — Governor Kim Reynolds outlines her vision during her final Condition of the State address. She says her focus will be on issues like property tax relief, cancer prevention and education funding. Reynolds began her speech with a tribute to the two families of the Iowa National Guard soldiers killed in Syria last month. The Iowa Democratic Party quickly issued a rebuttal by Rob Sand, who is running to replace Reynolds. Sand said if elected, his focus would be on layoffs across the state and a decline in education rankings compared to the rest of the nation.
ICE Protesters Arrive In Force At Iowa State Capitol
(Des Moines, IA) — Anti-ICE protesters rally ahead of the Condition of the State address. The protesters held signs in the Iowa State Capitol Rotunda on Tuesday where Governor Kim Reynolds gave her annual speech. It was her final speech as governor as term limits force her to step down from the role. Similar protests are happening across the country after the shooting death of Renee Good by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. Protesters referred to ICE as the modern-day Gestapo and said they have an “obligation to speak up.”
Iowa Farm Bureau Schedules Meetings to Prepare Farmers Financially
(Des Moines, IA) — The Iowa Farm Bureau is holding several meetings to help farmers navigate economic challenges. The meetings will explore topics like tighter margins, high interest rates and market uncertainty during 2026. Program Manager Zach Brummer says the decisions farmers have to make are tougher than recent years because of more unknowns in the economy and climate. Early projections expect farmer incomes to decline by more than 20-percent this year, according to a study by Terrain AG. Six meetings are scheduled from February 16th through the 25th at various locations including Sheldon, Wall Lake, Dunlap, Calmar, Anamosa and the Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
Des Moines International Airport Sees Record Passengers In 2025
(Des Moines, IA) — The Des Moines Airport Authority says it served a record number of travelers last year. More than three-point-two million passengers passed through its gates in 2025, which officials say is a two-point-four percent increase from 2024. It marks the third year in a row the airport served more than three-million passengers. The airport recently added more than eleven-hundred new parking spots in its garage and a new terminal is set to open in 2027. Officials say the 557-million-dollar terminal project is ahead of schedule.
