(Red Oak) The Montgomery County Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 Tuesday morning to dissolve the county’s Compensation Board.
In 2024, the state passed legislation allowing counties to dissolve their Compensation Boards. The law gives supervisors the option to either reinstate the board or assume its responsibilities. Compensation Boards annually recommend salaries for elected officials.
District 4 Supervisor Mark Peterson spoke against dissolving the board.
District 5 Supervisor Alex Burton raised concerns about ensuring the supervisors provided the necessary homework.
District 3 Supervisor Bryant Amos said department heads can provide the same information directly to supervisors that the Compensation Board would present.
District 2 Supervisor Mike Olson noted that supervisors ultimately make the final decision on salaries.
District 1 Supervisor and Chairperson Charla Schmid echoed Olson’s remarks.
Supervisors Schmid, Amos, and Olson voted in favor of dissolving the Compensation Board. Supervisors Burton and Peterson voted against the measure.
