(Storm Lake) The Atlantic High School Archery team posted solid performances in both the 3D and Bullseye Tournaments at the Buena Vista University Classic in Storm Lake over the weekend.
Atlantic shot 1655 in the 3D competition for the title. Spencer finished second with a 1639, Siouxland Christian School third, 1446, and Marcus-Meridan-Cleghorn ended up fourth with a score of 1400.
In the boys’ division, Hunter Quist led the Trojans with a second-place 284. Grant Petty was fifth with a 279, and Hank Roberts was sixth, shooting a 274. Gabrielle Engler continues to shine. The sophomore topped the girls’ division with a score of 277. Madeline Blake finished second with a solid 276. Lily Johnson was fifth with a 265, Talia Hoover sixth with a score of 264, and Elynor Brummer was tenth with a 256.
The Trojans finished second in Bullseye with a score of 3231. Spencer won it with a 3323.
Hunter Quist and Hank Roberts finished sixth and seventh individually in the boys’ division. Quist shot 279, and Roberts posted a 278. Five Atlantic girls finished in the top ten. Lily Johnson finished third in the girls’ division with a 276. Gabrielle Engler fourth, 275, Elynor Brummer sixth, 271, Madeline Blake, seventh with a score of 270, and Paislee Klever, tenth with a 268.
Atlantic also competed at the Nodaway Valley tournament. Individually in the high school division. In 3D, Lily Johnson finished in the top ten in the girls’ division with a second-place score of 282, and Madeline Blake finished in third with a 278. In Bullseye, Hank Roberts shot a fourth-place 286 in the boys’ field. In the girls’ division, Madeline Blake scored a third-place 283, Shauna Anderson was in sixth place with a 280, and Jacquie Freund was tenth with a 274.
Jethro Johnson led the middle school boys in the Bullseye competition at Nodaway Valley with an eighth-place score of 268. Alicia Juhl and Lucy Northwick finished ninth and tenth place, respectively, with a 264 and a 263.
In 3D, Hunter Kardell finished tenth with a score of 252. On the girls’ side, Alicia Juhl finished ninth with a 256.
