Grand Island Wins Rollin Dyer Wrestling Invitational: Atlantic Second

(Atlantic) Grand Island, Nebraska turned in a strong performance at the Rollin Dyer Invitational in Atlantic on Saturday, advancing five wrestlers to the finals, crowning two champions, and capturing the team title with 242 points. Atlantic had three finalists, produced one champion, and finished runner-up in the 17-team field with 212 points.

Grand Island had two individual champions, with Jaxen Graves (132) and Gavin Pedersen (144) winning titles. Rudy Rodriguez (120), Kaden Harder (165), and Ryan Boehle (215) were runners-up.

Atlantic’s Keaton Schroeder (pictured above) captured the individual championship at 120 pounds, while Braxton Hass (132) and Kalvin Hayes (150) finished second. Jayden Harter (157) recorded the 100th win of his career in his opening match of the tournament and went on to finish third, along with Donovan Hedrington (190). In total, the Trojans earned medals in 11 of the 14 weight classes. Collin Harris (126), Dreven Smith (165), Travin Thomas (215), and Cooper Woolsey (285) all placed fourth. Dayton Van Horn (106) and Landon Hagen (138) finished fifth.

Sergeant Bluff-Luton advanced four wrestlers to the finals, crowned two champions, and finished third in the team standings with 198 points. Ben Walsh (150) and Dax Koedam (157) won titles, while Luke Walsh (106) and Josh Gray (113) placed second.

Glenwood crowned four champions and placed fourth in the team race with 192.5 points. Freshman Joe Leick remained unbeaten on the season with the 126-pound title and was named the Rollin Dyer Outstanding Wrestler for his performance. Leick recorded two decisions and two falls, including a pin of top-seeded Jaxon Page of Alta-Aurelia in 1:36 in the finals. Other Glenwood champions included Nile Lundvall (175), Mason Koehler (215), and Drake Buthe (285).

Underwood finished ninth in the team race with 102.5 points. Kaleb Nelson (175), finished second, and Ryan Fletcher (132), Jace Blum (144) finished in third place.

Audubon finished 10th with 76.5 points. Seven wrestlers medaled for the Wheelers. Leyton Elmquist (113) finished third, Jon Rasmussen (138) finished fourth, Lane Meyer (285) sixth, and Karsen Juelsgaard (106), Lane Elmquist (126), and Mason Kasperbauer (175) all finished in seventh. Jack Hansen (132) was eighth.

Roman Scheffler (285) of AHSTW brought home a third place medal.
