(Oakland, IA) — Molly Allen has left Riverside and is wrestling at Oklahoma St. but others are trying to carry on her legacy. One of the them is Sophomore Hailey Harvey who is off to a great start this year for the Bulldogs.
Harvey is a perfect 15-0 so far this season. She has had some strong wins — a tough 12-8 victory over Camryn Andersen of Sioux City North to start the season, a tech fall win over Jada Mingus-Alfaro of Spencer who Harvey is familiar with and a 10-4 win over Audubon’s Macy Rasmussen last Tuesday. As a freshman she went 31-6 and 1-2 at the state tournament. She admits she was still figuring things out last year
Harvey actually got into wrestling because she did not like a certain class in middle school that was at the end of the day
She grew to love wrestling — she says she made a big jump from 8th grade to her freshman year and suddenly that’s when she met her hero
Allen and Harvey became drill partners and that pushed Harvey to be at her best. Harvey says Allen made her strong mentally and physically and Harvey has carried on her work ethic and her winning tradition
Harvey hopes she will have the chance to wrestle in college one day but in the meantime her goal is to get on the podium this year at state. Riverside will compete in a triangular Tuesday at Logan Magnolia and ATU and will wrestle Saturday at AHSTW in their last competition before the winter break
