(Avoca, IA) — It was a doubleheader split on Monday night — AC/GC’s girls rolled to a first game win and AHSTW’s boys broke open a close game in the nightcap.
The Vikings boys got their first win of the year 60-48 over the Chargers. It was close through three quarters — AHSTW led 12-7 after one, AC/GC led 26-23 at the half, the Vikes led 39-38 going to the 4th. Will Skram got a lay up to start the final quarter as the Chargers retook the lead 40-39. AHSTW then went on a 8-0 run as the Chargers got cold. The run extended to 17-3 as Evan Harder and Kayden Sandbothe got some key baskets during the stretch. The Vikings led 56-43 and cruised from there.
Evan Harder led AHSTW (1-3) with 14 points, 9 in the 4th quarter. Dayton Osbahr and Parker Krohn each had 11, Collin Harder and Kayden Sandbothe each had 9. AC/GC (1-4) was led by Tommy Skram with 18 points, Joe Crawford was held to 8. The Chargers shot just 29 percent from the field including 6-31 from three point land.
The girls game was all AC/GC winning 64-32. Meranda Gruber hit a three to start the game — the junior had 8 points in the opening quarter and hit three threes in the game with 13. Cam Richter did not play most of the first half after getting three early fouls but had 11 in the third quarter and led with 15 points. Becca Littler added 9 for AC/GC (6-0).
Addison Carroll led AHSTW (3-3) with 12 points in a losing effort — the Lady Vikes were 2-17 from three point land.
