(Avoca, IA) — Its a non conference basketball doubleheader tonight as AC/GC visits AHSTW, coverage on KSOM.
On the girls side, the Lady Vikes are much improved with a 3-2 record and coming off a loss to #1 Treynor. Last season, Addison Carroll averaged 7 points and 7 rebounds a game but those numbers are up this year — the junior is averaging a double double — 13.8 points and 10.8 rebounds a game. Head Coach Jason McCall says she is making better decisions
AC/GC is ranked #8 and is 5-0. Senior Cam Richter leads the way with 14.8 ppg but Junior Olivia Mahaffey has taken a step forward averaging 11.8 points a game off the bench and had 22 points the other day against Woodward Granger. Head Coach Brad Baudler says she has worked on some things
On the boys side, AC/GC is 1-3 and got their first win of the season on Friday, 63-50 over Ogden. Tommy Skram leads the way averaging 19.3 ppg. The Chargers lost 4 starters from last year’s substate finals team so its been a rebuilding year so far for Head Coach Lance Kading. He says defense has been an issue — he has switched to a mostly zone because of their lack of size
AHSTW is still looking for their first win with losses to three extremely tough teams Underwood, Tri Center, and Treynor. Collin Harder leads the Vikings at 23 points a game.
AC/GC out of the West Central visits AHSTW out of the Western Iowa, girls start off our coverage at 5:45pm, 6 pm tip off, audio on KSOM and video at Western Iowa Today TV.
