(Guthrie Center, IA) — It’s been an impressive past three years for the Chargers as they turn the page on the 2025 season. The team has been perfect in the regular season for those years with a record of 24-0. Unfortunately for ACGC, they’ve fell one game short of the UNI-Dome in each of those years, losing three times consecutively in the postseason quarterfinals. However, it’s impossible to ignore the consistent success the program has had, and it can be credited to a strong senior class that head coach Cody Matthewson will be graduating this year. Matthewson says the seniors blazed a path in the program:
The Chargers graduate 14 seniors this year, including quarterback Tommy Skram, workhorses Joe Crawford and Brexton Schneider, who both combined for over 2300 rushing yards, and tackle leader Xander Harwood. Despite the majority of ACGC’s offensive production leaving next year, Matthewson says it’s nothing he hasn’t seen before:
ACGC only met one team in the regular season that could get within one score of them in Mt. Ayr. ACGC would go on to beat them 21-7 in the second round of postseason before falling 24-14 to West Sioux. Matthewson says in order to get that far into the playoffs, him and the rest of the coaching staff worked on making sure their team’s mentality was in check:
The ACGC Chargers will look to continue their consistent excellence next season.
