(Griswold) Griswold Schools Superintendent Dave Henrichs delivered some positive news to the school board on Monday night regarding the district’s student enrollment numbers. Henrichs says the official student enrollment is based on a count in October. He says all school districts must certify their enrollment on October 15.
Henrichs explains that there are two different counts. One is certified enrollment, which is the number of students residing in your district, regardless of where they attend school. He says Griswold’s certified enrollment is 414, which is a decrease of 28 students from the previous school year. The other count is called the BEDS, which tracks the number of students attending a particular school on a daily basis, regardless of their residence.“From a financial standpoint, this is the most important one, because money follows the student,” explained Henrichs.
Griswold’s BEDS enrollment is 381, a decrease of six students from the previous school year. “The reason for the difference is the BEDS enrollment takes into account all of the changes that happen with open enrollment from one year to the next,” said Henrichs. “We have a lot fewer students open enrolling out of the district, and more students open enrolling in. This is a positive 22 students attending the district. This changes our enrollment to 22 students, a positive outcome.
Henrichs says when looking at the change in those numbers, the district has 22 students either staying in the Griswold School district or electing to come. “That is why our certified enrollment is so much different than our BEDS enrollment, so that is a huge positive for our district.”
