(Red Oak) — In July, the Montgomery County Board of Supervisors approved a Memorandum of Understanding allocating Opioid Settlement Funds to Resilient Recovery Counseling. Under the agreement, the County committed to providing $3,000 per month to the organization, contingent upon meeting a series of strict requirements.
Richard Mullen, a representative of Resilient Recovery Counseling, appeared before the board this morning to provide an update. He noted that services officially began on September 17 at the Montgomery County Public Health Office.
Mullen shared that the organization is working on NARCAN education, program development for clients, and distributing informational handouts.
He added that much of his time has been spent introducing the program to local entities and available community resources.
Mullen highlighted the generational cycle of poverty in the area, which he says the program also aims to address. He reported meeting with eight community members so far, with two choosing to enroll immediately and two more planning to participate — both individually and in group sessions.
In light of the recent announcement of the closure of the Creston Workforce Center, Mullen emphasized the importance of providing local support for career readiness, résumé building, and unemployment assistance. Without it, residents would have to travel to Council Bluffs for such services.
He concluded by emphasizing his goal: to connect individuals with as many helpful resources as possible.
