(Neola, IA) — Riverside Volleyball remained unbeaten on the season but they lost the first set to Tri Center before winning 3 sets to 1 on Thursday night.
The Bulldogs trailed in a match for the first time this season but after falling in the first set 22-25, they recovered to win the next three 25-13, 25-16, and 25-20.
The first set was a see saw affair — the Trojans led 13-6 but Arabella Singleton’s serve cut the lead to 13-11 and then Lilli Reed took the serve, got two aces and cut the lead to 16-15. The Bulldogs tied it 17-17 and 21-21 but Tri Center got a side out and a key block to lead 24-21. Riverside’s block went out of bounds to give the first set to the Trojans.
Riverside took control in set 2 — with a 9-7 edge, the Bulldogs rattled off 11 of the next 14 points to lead 20-10.
With the match tied 1-1, Sophia Fenner got back to back aces, Sydney Somers got a big kill and the Bulldogs won a big rally to lead 9-3 and never trailed the rest of the set.
Riverside built a 5-1 lead in set 4. Trailing 10-6, Tri Center got a side out and scored 4 points on serve to lead 11-10. The teams traded side outs — with the score 15-15, Fenner got the serve again and the Bulldogs got 7 straight points to build a lead that the Trojans could not overcome.
