(Atlantic) The Atlantic Football team is wrapping up its first official week of practice. Atlantic Head Coach Joe Brummer says they had to work around the state fair and vacations, but otherwise, practice went well.
This is the first story in a series breaking down the offense and defense.
The Trojans return experience in the backfield with First All-District fullback Gavin McLaren, and state track qualifier and second team all-district selection Ethan McNeal. McLaren rushed for 795 yards and 13 touchdowns on just 94 carries, averaging an impressive 8.5 yards per attempt. McNeal added 584 yards and four touchdowns on 62 carries, averaging 9.4 yards per carry. Coach Brummer is impressed with their leadership and mentions some others who will see the field in the backfield this fall.
Senior Quarterback Zayden Parker returns to the field after sitting out last season with an injury. As a sophomore, Parker was 61-134 passing, for 798 yards, and nine touchdowns.
Coach Brummer says, like every position, there is competition.
The Trojans will host Shenandoah in a scrimmage at 6:00 p.m. on August 22 and open the season at home against Glenwood on August 29.
