(Exira, IA) — While practice has begun for the majority of football teams today, Exira EHK has been going since last week with the addition of a Week Zero game next Friday, August 22. When the new schedule was released, there was a bye in the first week in September so they added Sidney for their first game a week early.
The Spartans are coming off a 3-6 season which is not the norm — its just the third time in the last 17 years that the team has been under .500. Head Coach Drew Buckholdt says the kids are slowly working their way into shape. Senior Bryce Brabham returns at quarterback and was the team’s leading rusher last year with 1,168 yards. Buckholdt says he has battles up front on the offensive line and in the defensive secondary
Buckholdt was pleased with the number of kids in the weight room this summer and there was good attendance
Exira EHK is in 8 Man District 9 and Buckholdt says Audubon and Ar-We-Va will be the favorites and you can’t sleep on CAM either and Coon Rapids Bayard will be tough if Cal Heydon comes out for football.
Meanwhile, Buckholdt is getting his team ready for next Friday and he says he wants to to eliminate mental mistakes
