(Harlan, IA) — The Harlan girls tennis squad will open their new season today at Denison Schleswig. The Cyclones went 5-5 in duals last year and lose their two foreign exchange students — #1 player Naia Ojeda and #3 Julia Pando. That leaves some experience coming back for Head Coach Michael Rueschenberg to work with but only a short time to prepare for their opener
With Ojeda gone, Harlan will turn to Senior Anastacia Kay to move up from the number two spot and Rueschenberg knows it will be a challenge
Junior Chloe Swenson moves to the number two spot from number four. Sophomore Alexa Powers climbs up the ladder to number three. Seniors Rebekah Christensen and Catherine Fah teamed up for doubles last year and they will be back plus Senior Lauren Schmitz is out for tennis this year and will provide leadership. Overall, Rueschenberg hopes to see growth from his players this season
They will serve it up at 10 am this morning with the Monarchs — Harlan will be on the road for their first four matches. The home opener is Monday, August 18 against Red Oak.
