(Lincoln, NE) — New head coach, no problem. Expectations have not diminished since John Cook retired as Head Coach for Nebraska Volleyball and with Dani Busboom Kelly coming in, the Huskers are ranked number one in the AVCA Pre-Season Coaches Poll.
Despite Penn St. being the defending national champions, Nebraska is ranked ahead of the Nittany Lions in the Big Ten Pre-Season poll and now in the national poll. Penn St. is ranked second followed by Pittsburgh, Busboom Kelly’s former team Louisville and Texas 5th. Rounding out the top ten are Stanford, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Texas A&M, and SMU. Creighton is ranked 12th in the poll.
Two time Big Ten Setter of the Year Bergen Reilly returns along with Outside Hitter Harper Murray and Middle Blocker Andi Jackson and all are on the Player of the Year watchlist in the AVCA this year.
Busboom Kelly is not surprised that Nebraska was voted #1, she is on the panel and voted the Huskers number one and believes her team is ready for the season right now
Busboom Kelly comes from a successful program at Louisville where she was the National Coach of the Year in 2021 and won 203 games. The Husker alum says she is a better coach since coming back to Lincoln
Nebraska has their Red White Scrimmage this Saturday and open the season against #3 Pitt on Friday, August 22.
