(Sponsored) Anita, Iowa will commemorate its 150th anniversary with a three-day celebration filled with local flavor, history, and activities for all ages. From August 1st through 3rd, the town will welcome residents, former neighbors, and visitors for a schedule of events that highlights what makes Anita unique.
The celebration begins Friday evening with food trucks, a steak sandwich meal from the Anita Fire Department, and a water-themed fundraiser hosted by CAM Cubs Childcare. The night also features a kids’ parade, a scavenger hunt, and live music from Jo Kelloway Littleton and the Chuggaluggers. The opening ceremony will include the crowning of Little Miss & Mr. Whaletown and the presentation of Lady Anita and the Sesquicentennial Governor, followed by birthday cake and home movies at the Community Center.
Saturday offers a full day of activities, beginning with the Whaletown Parade, followed by a downtown showcase that includes food, vintage cars, a history walk, school memorabilia, and a variety of displays and performances. Visitors can explore exhibits, watch Dance Atlantic perform, hear local musicians, and take part in contests ranging from longest beard to best mustache. Sunday closes out the weekend with a fun run at Lake Anita, a pancake breakfast, a community church service, and a horseshoe contest.
