David J. Raymond Files Papers and Joins Russell Miller in Race for the Open Seat on the Lewis City Council

(Lewis) The race is on for the open seat on the Lewis City Council. On Tuesday afternoon, the Cass County Auditor’s Office confirmed that David J. Raymond has officially filed paperwork to run in the upcoming special election. He joins Russell Miller as the only two candidates to have filed so far.

The seat became vacant after Chris Jahnke assumed the role of Mayor on April 29, 2025. The deadline for candidates to file nomination papers is Friday, July 25 at 5:00 p.m.

The Special Election is scheduled for August 19, and the winner will serve temporarily through the end of 2025. The seat will then be up again in the regular election on November 4, with the newly elected council member starting a full term in 2026.

To run, candidates must submit an affidavit of candidacy along with a nomination petition containing at least 10 signatures from eligible Lewis voters. These forms are available at the Cass County Auditor’s Office located in the Cass County Courthouse.
