(Washington D.C.) Representative Zach Nunn (IA-03) and RSC Chair August Pfluger (TX-11) sent a letter to Speaker Mike Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune urging a sanctions package to give the President more leverage to push Russia toward ending the war in Ukraine.
Zach Nunn, Chair of the National Security Task Force, said that in this role, he helped lead an effort with his colleagues to impose even broader, full-spectrum sanctions on Russia.
The letter is designed to align congressional action with White House pressure, urging the inclusion of several key provisions in any sanctions package, including:
- A total freeze on Russian government assets and transactions in the U.S.
- Secondary sanctions on Chinese and North Korean entities aiding Russia’s war effort.
- Crackdowns on Russia’s shadow fleet of oil tankers used to evade sanctions.
- A dynamic oil price cap mechanism to ratchet down revenue from energy exports.
- Sanctions on entities facilitating Russian financial operations, territorial theft, and gray zone attacks on U.S. allies.
