(Atlantic) Construction is set to begin shortly on the 2025 Concrete Street Improvement Project in Atlantic. The City Council reviewed and approved the project’s contract and bonds during Wednesday night’s meeting.
Bluffs Paving and Utility Company, Inc. will lead the work, having submitted the winning bid of $1,203,074.50.
Dave Sturm of Snyder & Associates, the engineering firm overseeing the project, explained that the work will include full reconstruction using Portland cement concrete, minor drainage enhancements, and various other related improvements. “We’re ready to go,” said Sturm.
Sturm also noted that arrangements have been made to ensure local businesses maintain access to their properties throughout the construction process.
The project covers several key streets in Atlantic, including:

State Street from Locust Street to Chestnut Street

Commerce Street from Chestnut to east of Linn Street

Chestnut Street from Commerce north to the Schildberg parking lot

Hickory Street from 6th to 7th

Laurel Street from 10th to the dead end
Councilmember Gerald Brink emphasized the importance of the project for the local area.
