(Mills Co) One person was killed and two others were injured in an accident in Mills County Saturday evening.
The Iowa State Patrol says A Chevy SUV (driver unknown) was southbound on Highway 59 when it dropped off onto the right shoulder. The driver overcorrected and began to skid across the roadway where it struck a guardrail and then struck a northbound 2022 Ford Explorer. The Chevy SUV came to rest on the guard rail and became engulfed in flames. The Ford Explorer, driven by 61-year-old Dwight Charles Mayer of Essex, came to rest in the northbound lanes of Highway 59.
The driver of the Chevy SUV was killed in the accident. Authorities are currently working to confirm the driver’s identity.
Dwight Charles Mayer and 59-year-old Christy Lee Mayer were both transported to UNMC by Life Net.
The accident remains under investigation.
