(Atlantic) The Vision Atlantic series continues today with a focus on the dedicated group working to secure grant funding for this ambitious initiative.
Vicki Nordskog, a member of the Vision Atlantic committee and a seven-member grant subcommittee, says the group has researched around 60 grant opportunities and submitted applications for 30. To date, they have been awarded nine grants totaling $127,318, with an additional $467,000 currently pending.
Vision Atlantic President Christina Bateman emphasizes that grant funding is crucial to the project’s success, reflecting the strong community engagement and support behind the effort. She says the grant portion is projected to bring in $1.5 million, exceeding the Charles E. Lakin Foundation’s $8.6 million in grants.
Bateman says the Community Attraction Tourism (C.A.T.) Grant is an example of one of those large grants. Vision Atlantic would need to raise approximately 90 percent of the funds to receive a grant of this size.
Vision Atlantic has applied for a $200,000 grant from the Iowa West Foundation. The committee will determine next week whether the large grant has been approved.
KSOM/KS95 News continues our series of stories with the Vision Atlantic initiative. This $75 million transformative project includes 142 new housing units, an expansion of the YMCA, and a new 300-capacity childcare development center.
