A Celebration of Life Prayer Service for 81-year-old Philip Kerry Hackett, of Carson, will be held on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at 6:30 PM, at the Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland. After the prayer service, a time with the family will be held until 7:30 PM. Interment will be at a later date. Rieken Vieth Funeral Home in Oakland is assisting the family.
Philip Kerry Hackett, the son of Kermit and Orpha (Bingham) Hackett, was born September 30, 1943, in Council Bluffs, IA. He died July 3, 2025, in Carson, IA, at the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 3 days.
Phil grew up west of Hancock, IA, and attended country school through the 2nd grade before moving on to Hancock School in Hancock. He graduated from Avo-Ha School with the class of 1962. After his education, he joined the National Guard and began farming. On November 30, 1963, he married Marilyn Forristall, and together they had three children: Marsha, Andy, and Cyndi. The family lived in several different places before settling in rural Carson in 1975 and later moving to the family place in 1985.
Phil was a member of the Hancock United Methodist Church and later became a member of New Life Church in Atlantic, IA. He enjoyed selling produce at farmers markets, woodworking, managing his hydroponic greenhouse, and touring the countryside in his vehicle.
Phil is survived by his children: Marsha Hackett of Carson, IA, Andy Hackett and wife Sherri of Carson, IA, and Cyndi Main and husband Randy of Griswold, IA; his grandchildren: Paige Vavra and husband Keenan, Faith Sauser and boyfriend Kyle, Harlie Sauser, Hank Hackett and wife Mercedes, Jamie Hackett, Averie Carillo, Brody Main, Dylan Main and girlfriend Maddie, Kayleigh Maine, Jordyn Main and boyfriend Damon, Maddy Main and boyfriend Dawson, and Garrison Main; great grandchildren: Charlotte, Aurora, Hudson and Haven; ex-wife Marilyn Hackett; brother Dennis Hackett and wife JoAnne.
Phil is preceded in death by his parents.
